Curriculum

At the BMME (Jackson) Internal Medicine Residency program, we offer a specialized educational and training experience that includes hands-on learning activities and exposure to state-of-the-art medical technology. Our primary focus is on establishing a top-tier educational and professional framework designed specifically for hospital and clinical settings. The faculty leading our program are experienced educators who bring a depth of knowledge to ensure a concentrated and outstanding learning atmosphere. 

Within our residency program, we draw on the expertise of healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines to enhance the educational experience of our Internal Medicine residents. Residents regularly collaborate with colleagues in nursing, pharmacy, and other medical specialties, gaining valuable insight into navigating the healthcare system and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Training includes procedural development through simulation lab sessions, hands-on bedside experience, and a dedicated rotation in Interventional Radiology, complemented by a comprehensive didactic curriculum that reinforces clinical knowledge and supports lifelong learning. The primary goal of our residency program is to develop well-rounded physicians who are knowledgeable, clinically skilled, and fully prepared to provide exceptional care as Internal Medicine practitioners.

Educational Sessions

Our residency program offers a comprehensive and structured didactic curriculum designed to support the clinical development and lifelong learning of our residents. Educational sessions include:
  • Didactic Lectures - board review noon lectures patterned after ACP-MKSAP
  • Morning Report - case-based, interactive review of recent admissions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday while on inpatient medicine rotation
  • Morbidity/Mortality Conference - monthly review of cases with adverse outcomes
  • Journal club - resident led monthly review of latest literature
  • Quality Improvement series - system efforts to improve patient outcomes
  • Grand Rounds - monthly faculty and guest lectures on clinical and professional topics
  • Focused CME lecture series

Subspecialty Rotations and Electives

We offer 4-week rotations in medical subspecialties and a variety of inpatient and outpatient electives. Through our mentorship and scholarly support programs, we help our residents tailor their educational experience to best fit their future career plans.
