Program Aims

Our program is committed to providing education that not only meets but exceeds the requirements set by the ACGME and board standards, while integrating the core tenets of the Baptist mission throughout the curriculum. We emphasize a holistic approach to medical training, ensuring that our residents receive a comprehensive and mission-driven education.

We focus on training and mentoring residents to ensure they are competent in all essential areas: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, and Systems-Based Practice. Our goal is to produce well-rounded physicians who excel in these key competencies, ready to meet the demands of their profession.

Our curriculum is designed to prepare residents to meet the unique healthcare needs of adult patients in Central Mississippi, with a particular focus on serving the extensive underserved population. By understanding and addressing the specific challenges faced by this community, our residents are equipped to provide compassionate and effective care.

Additionally, we foster a family-like culture within our learning and patient care environment, creating a supportive atmosphere that extends to the medical staff, clinical and administrative teams, and the greater community. This culture of camaraderie and collaboration is a cornerstone of our program, enhancing both education and patient care.
